Here's Journal Club 1/22/21! Every week, I hold a JOURNAL CLUB. After filtering through the articles on the web, I present a few that impacted my life this week. Be safe and stay well!

  • As physicians, we know that it’s not uncommon for doctors to live paycheck to paycheck. It’s an unfortunate reality, and there are many factors to blame. One of these factors is posed by Smart Money MD. In this post, the author asks: why do doctors have trouble controlling expenses? The answer is surprisingly accurate and enlightening.
  • As you probably know, setting goals is extremely important. But setting the right goals is even more so. In this post from Five Year Fire Escape, the author discusses some of the smaller goals you can make in order to reach your larger goals, and just how to get the most important thing right: your mindset. This article may not be directly aimed toward physicians, but the concepts ring true nonetheless.
  • Remember J. Wellington Wimpy from the old Popeye cartoons? You might not, but XRAYVSN does. And as it turns out, this perpetually-broke character stands as a great analogy for our modern finances. In this post, the author shows just how you can avoid being the next Wimpy.
  • Back in 2016, Physician on Fire made a post that detailed four hypothetical doctors at different stages in their careers and finances. In this post from 2021, he does the same thing but adjusted for the modern age. It’s fascinating to see how things have changed.

That’s it for this week! I hope Journal Club 1/22/21 was helpful to you.

Lastly, here's a little bit of motivation below. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
