Here's Journal Club 1/29/21! Every week, I hold a JOURNAL CLUB. After filtering through the articles on the web, I present a few that impacted my life this week. Be safe and stay well!

  • Can you actually achieve passive income? Is it even a real thing, or is it all just hype? These are questions posed in this recent article from the Prudent Plastic Surgeon. He makes a compelling case that the popular definition of “passive” is incorrect, and instead offers a better explanation for what it means.
  • Though there are many, many exceptions, as a whole, physicians tend to be poor investors. At least, according to the Darwinian Doctor–and it’s hard to disagree. In this post, though he sheds some light on why that can be the case, and what can be done about it. There’s a little tough love in there, but there’s also a good amount of great insight.
  • Most people think of financial independence and early retirement as a luxurious lifestyle, with days spent lounging at the beach or golfing. In reality, for many who reach that goal and quit their day job, life is still pretty busy. In this post from Five-Year Fire Escape, the author argues that this is because it’s not about the money; it’s all about the time to spend doing what you want.
  • This episode of the Financial Independence Podcast (from the Mad Fientist) covers some great financial independence concepts through an interview with Jacob Lund Fisker. He’s an expert in this field, and when it comes to the future of investing and the FIRE movement, this episode provides some great advice.

That’s it for this week! I hope Journal Club 1/29/21 was helpful to you.

Lastly, here's a little bit of motivation below. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
