Episode Breakdown

Tip 1: Make one great connection

Dr. Kim emphasizes the value of forging a single, impactful bond at conferences, regardless of who or how. He highlights that it can open doors to collaborations, investments, or even deep friendships lasting for years. By creating connections, one can uncover hidden gems and elevate their conference journey.

“I remember, the very first real estate conference that I went to, I felt intimidated. I didn’t know many people. I would sit in the sessions, listen to people, and I walked away with some great information. But, I kept thinking, is this the best use of my time?  Eventually, I connected with another attendee. We ended up just talking about our lives, our goals, and we set up a meeting to re-connect after the conference… I will say that one connection has resulted in at least six figures of extra opportunities.”   — Peter Kim, MD.

Tip 2: Make sure you acquire two valuable resources

Peter Kim advises attendees to secure two essential resources at conferences, encompassing individuals, services, or items. He stresses the significance of interacting with sponsors, organizers, and peers to pinpoint resources that resonate with your objectives. He also suggests jotting down what they read, podcasts they listen to, or other events as instrumental tools for your own growth.

“This might mean that you have to stop by all the sponsor booths. It also means, that when you talk to people and connect, listen for other valuable resources that you could use to get where you want to be? What books are they reading? What podcasts are they listening to?”  — Peter Kim, MD.

Tip 3: Define three actionable steps

Dr. Peter stresses the importance of outlining three concrete actions post-conference. He notes that while attendees often leave inspired, without a distinct plan, it’s easy to revert to old habits, neglecting newfound knowledge, wasting the time, and money invested overall. By determining specific steps during the event and maintaining consistent efforts, one can steadily advance towards their goals, keeping the momentum from the conference.

“If I want to implement a new strategy, one of my action steps might be to read a certain book download the book, so that I can start listening to it on the way home. Maybe for one of the resources mentioned, you set up a call for the following week, that would be an actionable step. Maybe you had an idea to implement something in your life, maybe it’s time management, or a great idea that could build a better system to get more things done? Well, you write these actionable steps down at the end of every conference.”  — Peter Kim, MD.

Before we wrap things up

Dr. Peter Kim ends the 3 points by recalling how they serve as a method to optimize conference experiences. He shares that this strategy focuses on making one great connection, acquiring two valuable resources, and defining three actionable steps. And with consistent application coupled with a proactive mindset, attendees can witness substantial growth in both their personal and professional lives.

“For those of you who are joining us for PMDCON this week. I’m so excited. We’re gonna practice this on the spot. I’m looking forward to meeting so many of you. We’re gonna bring together connections, resources, knowledge, from sessions and a ton of unexpected moments. If you’re still thinking of joining us, we’d love to have you there.
