Every other week, I hold a JOURNAL CLUB. After manually filtering through the millions of articles out there on the web, I present a few that impacted my life this month.

Here’s our Journal Club for the week, enjoy!

• You might be interested in personal finance topics, setting money goals, and your budget, but the problem is, your spouse falls interest-flat in this space. The Physician Philosopher shares unique insight on what to do including talking less about the numbers and focusing more on the bigger picture.

• Anjali Jariwala invited me onto her Money Checkup Podcast to discuss generating passive income through real estate. I had the opportunity to share personal stories and my overall perspective of why physicians should side hustle. Hope you enjoy it.

• Odds are, when on this journey of achieving financial independence, you're not only doing it for yourself, your kids fall in line somewhere on the trajectory. In this article on ChooseFI, we see exactly why it's important to consider your kids when making financial decisions, with a particular focus on opening a Roth IRA. 

• SmartMoneyMD thinks that if physicians have side gigs, they very well be purposeful; otherwise, the problem could be you in “the system.” In this blog, he shares a little about the emergence of the physician side-gig and why doctors shouldn't have to find one.

• Have a cheap car, want a cheap car, see the benefits of a cheap car? Finance blogger Retire by 40 lists the 10 reasons why he prefers a cheap car over an excessively expensive one. Saving money rather than overspending on a luxury vehicle became an attractive option for him and I'd like to think for good reason. How about you?

• In this blog, Wealthy Doc suggests we assess how happy we are in our clinical careers on the scale of love and like. If you aren't completely and wholly happy with where you are as a physician, try any one of these 35 practical (and somewhat small) life adjustments.

• Are cash balance fees worth it? Side Hustle Scrubs is admittedly all for side hustles to generate passive income, but when it comes to taxation or investing, this blogger has an opinion on what the better option is. 

• Finance blogger, Ryan Inman, addresses some of the most pressing finance topics posed by physicians, one surrounding the topic of estate planning. Considering that most of us spend a large part of our clinical careers learning how best to perform in that role, alongside our side hustles, we might not be thinking about what happens if we're no longer living. So the question deserves asking: do you have an estate plan?
