Here's Journal Club 08-05-22! Every week, I hold a JOURNAL CLUB. After filtering through the articles on the web, I present a few that impacted my life this week. Be safe and stay well!
- By now, everyone has heard of the FIRE movement, but many versions of the movement exist. The Financial Samurai explores the idea of lean fire in the article, What Is Lean FIRE? The Minimalist’s Way To Retire Early. This article reminds you that not everyone’s idea of the dream retirement looks the same. It is a good idea to clearly define your goals and build a retirement that is right for you.
- Many articles have come out that claim the FIRE movement is dead. They also claim that the pandemic killed the idea of early retirement for many, but Lisa Gershner of Kiplinger explores why this is not so in her article, The FIRE Movement Is Alive and Well. This is another good article to sink your teeth into if you are starting goal setting for your retirement.
- A portfolio that includes stocks, bonds, and real estate is considered the foundation of retirement. One of the core principles of the FIRE movement is reducing debt so that you can retire early, but many have between 10-15% of their investments in real estate. An investment that requires a mortgage might seem counterintuitive to the FIRE movement, but John Wilhoit explores how this can be a sound decision in, FIRE Investing and Real Estate Investing Can Work Together.
- Soaring real estate prices have many investors wondering if they are a good hedge against rising inflation What Is Lean FIRE? The Minimalist’s Way To Retire Early. Some fear that the housing bubble will burst. Claire Ballentine and Alice Kantor of Bloomberg found that using real estate might be a perfect hedge strategy in, Real Estate Is Emerging as a Hedge Against Inflation.
That's all for this week! I hope this week's journal club was helpful.
