Journal Club 10-30-20

Here's Journal Club 10/30/20! Every week, I hold a JOURNAL CLUB. After filtering through the articles on the web, I present a few that impacted my life this week. Be safe and stay well!

  • Budgeting is a surprisingly controversial topic in the personal finance community. Many people hate the idea of filling out tedious spreadsheets, but most agree that some form of tracking is beneficial. In this post, the Prudent Plastic Surgeon details exactly how he does his budget, and shared a template to make it as painless as possible.
  • What does financial freedom mean to you? This is the question posed by the Cash Cow Couple in this fantastic post. The authors state that it doesn’t matter where you are on your journey to financial independence, it’s always good to assess your goals, your progress, and to always know your why. Depending on how far along you are, this can be a great motivator or a great reminder.
  • As you probably know, I’m a big fan of buying rental properties. There are quite a few things to consider, though, especially in regards to the buying process. This comprehensive post from Fortune Builders covers the closing process in great detail. If you needed to brush up on how closing works, this article is a great refresher.
  • One of the greatest things we can do for our families is to teach them how to be successful on their own. This article from Debt-Free Doctor shows how important it is to teach your children how to handle finances and to provide the tools necessary for them to succeed. He uses his own experience as examples, and it’s an excellent read.

That’s it for this week! I hope Journal Club 10/30/20 was helpful to you.

Lastly, here's a little bit of motivation below. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
