Episode Breakdown

[02:05]

What is HeyRenee

HeyRenee is a personal healthcare assistant that unifies the myriad complex aspects of healthcare into one intuitive, delightful experience specifically designed for underprivileged, older Americans who often have lower health and tech literacy and multiple health, social, and cultural factors that require coordinated attention to realize improved outcomes.

Launching A Tech Platform Business

Launching came from the realization that as a full functioning doctor who cares for the wellbeing of her patients in the office and out of the office, that a product and system could serve her patience personal needs to take ownership of their healthcare at home. Dr. Dua is trying to solve the problem to offer full patient care through their healing process.

Balancing Entrepreneurship, Practicing Medicine, And Your Family

HEAL was birthed after her personal experience of caring for her son’s medical needs. It has now scaled into 12 states. This vision of HEAL was to deliver primary care to the home, using software.

[9:07]

Entrepreneur Solving The Problem

Dr. Dua is constantly asking herself, what can we get out of the way to solve the problem of the doctor & patient relationship? Assisting the patient, their family, or their caretakers can happen through software.

[10:12]

Balancing practicing medicine and entrepreneurship

According to Dr. Dua, the first and most important step to take in solving a problem is to partner with someone who can help you raise money in order to scale the business.

[11:35]

Raising Support For Your Entrepreneur Idea

Dr. Dua reminds the audience that “we know wellness. We have a skill set that venture capitalist need and don’t have. Most doctors are humble, but you can’t be that way. You have to walk in the room, open your mouth, and say what’s good about what you do and know.”

[13:20]

Doctors Make Great Entrepreneurs

Doctors need to be the face of trust in the healthcare industry. There is so much that can be done with data and how to communicate that and leave an impact.

“Do what is right for the patient, and you will always be rich.” – Dr. Dua

[14:33]

Balancing Life

Dr. Dua surrounds herself with her wonderful partner and husband, their parents, nanny, and occasionally night-time nanny. She admits to being tired, but then adds “when you love what you do, you do it. When I see the impact of what I do on my children, and how they someday will better their world.”

Being an entrepreneur is not for everyone. “It is for someone who has a voice, who wants to command an idea, and can do things outside of seeing patients. Doing something that they truly enjoy and they don’t feel intense pressure.”

“I’ve had lots of mistakes, lots of nos, lots of missed thanksgiving parades, lots of rejection… but I’m always at the next corner to see what happens. And suddenly, something comes through.”

Entrepreneur Tip

Write this question… How do you see a path from your idea to making money?

Then take time to think it out, sketch it out, write it out.

If it’s not you financing your idea, who is your partner that will help you scale that idea into reality?
